I first got in to coconut oil a few years ago when I used it as a hair treatment. Since then I have still been buying coconut oil but mainly for cooking reasons and to add to my coffee because I like the taste and it’s supposed to give you more energy! Virgin coconut oil extracted from mature coconuts without using high temperatures or chemicals is unrefined and potentially has antioxidant properties. It also smells incredible compared to the refined stuff!
Vita Coco is one of the better known brands for Coconut products (such as the lovely coconut water I overdosed on recently…don’t ask. Everything in moderation!). Their oils are cold pressed virgin style, which makes it the healthiest choice, and it is great on the skin and hair, but also edible.
I have a jar in the bathroom but also to cook with!
I don’t use a huge amount for frying, just the same as what I would for regular cooking. Baby H loves coconut oil on his toast! Unless you despise the smell and taste of coconuts, I think this subtle sweet taste would suit most people.
That said I haven’t tried many other Coconut oil brands to see huge differences, I don’t see any need to change if Vita is a good quality oil for a reasonable price (it certainly isn’t cheap compared to some other oils but it has the benefits).
Prices are £9.99 for 500ml or £6.49 for 250ml.
