Remember a product called WEN by Chaz Dean? No? You don’t watch enough home shopping channels.
WEN is a cleansing conditioner – if you’ve never heard of it, it seems like a super weird concept. It’s a 2 in 1 product, no need to shampoo and condition, just use this cream (quite a lot of it) all over your hair and the idea is that it is gentler and preserves colour too because of this.
I do think it seems strange after using Shampoo for a lifetime, but it’s also a good idea – my hair definitely can feel dry and stripped as I am a hair washing addict and my colour fades faster and my scalp can get dry from it too.
Now, the WEN stuff starts at something like £20 for a starter kit. Superdrug now have their own version for just £4.99 – so I gave the two versions (for coloured hair and normal to dry hair) a go.
I tried both versions and found them be very similar. I found the coloured hair version ever so slightly thicker.
So to use you have to use quite a few pumps and spread it all over the hair and massage. Since out after 2 minutes. It is recommend that you use it every other shampoo because of build up, I presume.
It basically feels like any conditioner. It is absolutely none lathering with spreads fine in to the hair (it is not as conditioning as actual conditioner though!) so I got a bit worried that it wouldn’t soften up my knotty hair. But it did fine – my hair after using this is soft and healthy looking. I quite like this product because I wash my hair so often that it gives my scalp etc. a break from regular shampoo. My hair can frizz so in a way this conditioner seems to weigh it down a little in a good way, reducing frizz. People with very fine hair might find this feels too heavy on.
Will this totally substitute shampoo? Probably not, I still feel like I need to shampoo for deep cleansing but I will definitely keep this affordable cleansing conditioner in my shower for regular use.
