I have had to ditch the fancier elements of my skincare during my pregnancy because of sensitivity. I have found some serums that I can tolerate, but generally speaking, anything acidic or abrasive has been ditched.
But here are two products that I have been using which do not irritate my skin and gives them the occasional treat!
Weleda Iris Moisture Balancing Hydrating Masque:
I am really loving Weleda this time around (I have been using their almond oil on my bump most nights). They say:
Weleda Iris Hydrating Masque contains iris root extract and cucumber extract to help the skin to retain its optimal moisture level while also cooling and soothing the skin. High quality almond oil and jojoba oil soften and strengthen the skin’s own protective barrier so that the skin is better able to withstand future dehydration.
I really like this face mask – it doesn’t set and leaves a somewhat rich film on the skin (so you need to rinse this off!). It has quite a lotion like texture, with what I feel is a somewhat oily base which is very soothing for drier skins like mine. It has a light floral scent which is very nice, not too overpowering (unless you don’t like herbally-floral type scents). I actually forgot I had this on and sat in it for ages, and it still didn’t set my skin off which is good!
This mask is left for 15-20 minutes and overall, just left my skin feeling more soothed without any stinging (I was using it when my sky was particularly dry and patchy). Definitely recommended for dry skins and people who like me dislike the gimmicky peel off/ dry and crack face masks.
It costs £13.95 from
Bioderma Gentle Exfoliating Cream
I definitely need a bit of exfoliating, although I don’t tend to use scrubs much any more. However, this Bioderma Gentle Exfoliating Cream is extremely gently and soothing, and doesn’t irritate my skin at all.
“Skin that is prone to dehydration is also prone to dullness, and requires maintenance to ensure that dead skin cells are regularly buffed away. This needs a gentle touch, and the Hydrabio Exfoliating Cream provides just that. Harnessing the innovative Aquagenium® patent which restimulates the skin’s ability to moisturise itself effectively, the formula works to restore balance.
The exfoliating effect of the Cream allows for better absorption of the rest of your Hydrabio regime, cleansing it in-depth so that it may derive full hydration benefits. With the non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic composition, skin is left feeling comfortable and smooth.”
This cream has quite a light texture and the exfoliating particles, so to speak, are quite fine and spread out in the formula…it’s a lot more cream than scrub, if that makes sense! So it’s sort of a double trouble treatment in a way, hydrating when its on, and scrubby when it comes off. It’s fragrance free and really doesn’t irritate my skin at all. I’ve found that regular scrubs at the moment irritate my face (I think it’s the actual cream/base in these formulas that sets off my allergies) so this is a nice one to have.
