Pixiwoo’s Real Techniques make up brushes are a really rather impressive range of brushes, considering the price point they are at. You may take it for granted now, but I remember being a teenager and not being able to find any decently priced good make up brushes (I ended up with The Body Shop ones that shed everywhere).
Anyway the Real Techniques range is expanding all the time and now there are some retractable brushes!
I love a good retractable compact-able brush. Because, my friends, I seem to end up doing my make up in the car (WHEN I AM NOT DRIVING) a lot. It’s tragic but the life of a busy mum. So I love a brush I can carry around and a brush with a lid.
There are a lot of retractable lip brushes and some tiny blush ones. These Real Techniques ones are rather special because they aren’t mini versions of proper brushes, they are proper brushes with bit fat heads, but with the lidded element. They are not super travel friendly for every day, but they are good for say holiday travelling or if you have a BIG bag.
The gold brush on the left is the Bronzer brush.
“The firm brush blends bronzer to perfection, giving you a natural glow in an instant.”
The pink brush is the kabuki brush (right).
“The firm brush can be used with blush, highlighter, bronzer or finishing powder allowing you to define your cheekbones, create a flawless base & colour the apple of your cheeks.”
Here they are lidded up:
The bronzer brush is a bigger head, it looks quite loose and splayed on this image but it’s actually a flat top and is quite firm (but looser than the Kabuki brush). It’s great for bronzers but any powder really. I found it fit the contours of my face nicely and was great to use.
The Kabuki brush is angled – looks like it works very well for blush and shading, but it is SUCH a dense brush that I think you could even use it for foundation, liquid or powder in particular. It has a very luxurious feel to it.
Both of these brushes are made of synthetic hairs; I do like my natural animal hairs for most brushes, but Real Techniques brushes are the few that I really like despite being synthetic – they still feel extremely soft and h and are easy to care for. Also I don’t experience shedding with this range.
If I had any criticism I would say that the handles are very chunky – this may be the only way they can get it to work with a lid because the bristles are so thick it needs to be quite wide, but it makes it less comfortable to hold than a slimmer handle. If the pay off is being able to have a lid though, I can live with it. It really makes it very handy for travelling. The handles are also a matte metal – it has a tinny feel and I was a bit paranoid about scratching them because in my handbag; nothing is safe!
The brush in use….no complaints here. These will be coming with me on my next holiday for sure.
All in all, a worthy purchase if you are looking for retractable, good quality, face make up travel brushes.
