I have to be totally honest here; I am not a massive supplement taker. I just about (grudgingly) managed to pop my massive Zita West vitamins and fish oil tablets during my pregnancies, even though I hate that bloated feeling they tend to give me. Overall, I eat a lot of average food but also a lot of super healthy food – everything in moderation I believe. With the way I am (lack of sleep, general fatigue and lack of time to look after myself) taking some vitamins I think helps with my general energy levels and overall health.
So here is what I carry with me, and what I try and take in the week. I am not religious about this – i like to eat something before I take them and if I don’t get the chance to eat, I don’t take them, or I pick and choose. But, these are the vitamins and minerals I have had for a while and seem to do a good job.
If I am going to put this stuff in my body then I use good quality stuff, not the random rubbish you find in pound shops! What I have is:
Higher Nature (an excellent site for general vitamins and minerals with free shipping) Omega 3 Fish Oil
Higher Nature Advanced Nutrition Complex (this does leave a bit of a strange after taste so I only take 1 per day).
DHC (also do lots of fab vitamins) Magnesium and Calcium – this was suggested to me from a friend for my fatigue.
The first 3 vitamins are quite self explanatory. The one that isn’t is Oskia Pure MSM.
MSM feeds the skin from inside with the most bio-available form of sulphur. It improves healthy collagen and keratin production to reduce the signs of premature ageing and maintain a healthy, youthful complexion. The Beauty Mineral has powerful detoxifying and anti-inflammatory benefits and also helps combat the symptoms of conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis.
These are quite largish tablets, and they don’t really smell of anything but when you look closely at the tablets, they a bit…dotty if that makes sense? Just an observation. You can also buy refills of it so you can keep hold of the jar, which is great, it reduces wastage.
For me using this supplement seemed to give me stronger, shinier hair. As I had both the jar and the refill I gave the refill pack to Mr C as he has quite severe psoriasis on his hands – in the month he took this he felt that the symptoms calmed down considerably, and the general uncomfortable feeling was reduced too. It also improved his nails (which were ruined by his scratching, the use of steroids which had thinned them).
The downside is that to keep this improvement, you would have to keep taking the supplement but then, that is the case with any kind of oral nutrient – upkeep is necessary.
It’s the poshest looking mineral I’ve ever had!
Here are all my supplements – some days I take nothing, some days I take all of them, others I may just have two because I am conscious of getting an upset tummy from overloading my system. But overall I haven’t had any adverse effects from these tablets.
This costs £29.50 (you can). DHC is from eBay, and Higher Nature
*Oskia is a PR sample, the rest were purchased by me.
