My favourite facialist in the world, Nataliya Robinson invited be back for another treatment having visited her twice before over the last 6 years. My first treatment was early 2012 shortly before I found out I was expecting H1 and the second time was the day after my wedding – I seem to visit her at pivotal moments in my life!
This time around, Nataliya has bigger premises in Chelsea, not too far from South Kensington tube stop. It has the feel of someone’s chic but welcoming home, with an elegant waiting area and treatment room upstairs.
My treatment began promptly because you have to remember – this lady is in demand, and there was one customer out before me and another one in straight after me.
The treatment room has the comfiest bed, and you just feel very safe and secure throughout the treatment.
There are set facials you can book (see her for the full list) but one thing I really love about her facials is that she customises for you. She isn’t going to use something on your face if she doesn’t think it is necessary, although she does also have all the latest skincare technology at hand such as oxygen, microdermabrasion and traditional techniques too like acupuncture.
Another thing I really like about Nataliya is that she does not try and sell you a ton of product or push any particular liked of expensive, strange products. In fact her advice is very clear and she doesn’t try and push anything on you; for example she recommended I cut out dairy; take supplements like Star flower oil which is easy to buy anywhere; use natural sunscreen where possible; drink liquorice tea and fresh ginger tea etc.
Her advice is totally achievable and many of her principles lie in Chinese medicine and using natural organic products which is something I also respect and follow.
I have written detailed reviews of Nataliya’s facials before, and to be honest it’s so relaxing it’s hard to remember what happened! She asked me at the start, did I want a cleansing facial which would hurt (extractions) or a relaxing facial. I said cleansing but to be honest, she is very quick and it was not too painful.
She spends time looking at your skin before deciding what to use – in my case, the skin on my forehead is in the best condition (I tend to have more oil there), my cheeks are sensitive and there are some broken capillaries, and I have congestion on my nose and especially jawline (this is hormonal).
During the facial I had some of these elements (and more!):
– Micro dermabrasion
– Acid peel using a natural acid
– Very relaxing massage
– Manual extraction
– Cleansing / Moisturising
I’ve done a Q&A with her so you can hear more about her philosophies.
1. What was the facial you did on me, and why is it beneficial?
A: After analyzing your skin I decided that your skin will benefits from application of lactic acid and gentle dermabrasion. These 2 procedures are great to prepare your skin for a deep cleansing facial , to remove the dead cells and build up of make up on the skin. The European facial is great for the skin that need to be cleaned on deeper level.
[Ed – I was a bit worried when Nataliya said she would use acids, it did tingle but I was amazed by how calm my skin looked after, it was not irritated at all and the dermabrasion also was pain free and helped with the extraction later].
2. What are some of your favourite natural remedies?
A.: Soy milk (plain with no sugar or any flavor). I recommend it to use for acne prone skin or skin that affected by pigmentation Wipe the affected areas on your skin with Soy milk on daily basis preferably in the evening on the clean skin.
3. We talked about changing skincare for the seasons. What kind of care so you recommend for the summer?
A: in the summer I would recommend to use mineral powder to protect the skin from the UV radiation. I would recommend do not use too many products and try to use natural skin care in order to not over sensitize the skin by the sun . Hat with wide brim is highly important during the summer time.
4. Can you recommend some oils for me to take?
A.: Star flower oil – take it everyday preferably with food and 2 hr.away from coffee or tea. It will help to control the breakouts on your chin prior your menstrual cycle.
[I have been taking 1 tablet before bed, I was amazed by how well I slept. This oil is very inexpensive to buy I would definitely recommend if you suffer from PMS.]
5. How has Chinese medicine changed the way to work or take care of yourself?
A.: Chinese medicine helps me understand the impact of season changes on body and diet . It’s 2000 years old and it’s very relevant to our days. For example , I see many clients who fanatically use some kind of Detox and “Healthy juicing ” (it’s very fashionable this days ) but their complexions show skin problems that are getting worse .
In Chinese medicine it is well known that cold food is not good for stomach specially on daily basis and especially in cold and wet seasons, such as winter/autumn. Warm soups and warm herbal teas are the key to a healthy stomach therefore healthy skin complexion.
[This is so true – my mum and Nan always moaned at me for my addiction to cold drinks!]
6. We talked about the importance of sleep! What tips do you have to promote good sleep?
A.: Go to bed no later then 9:30pm . If you do not feel sleepy then try to stimulate the sleepiness by soaking your feet for about 30 minutes in the hot water with added Epsom salt.
Stay away from the computer screen before your bad time as it will over stimulate your brain and you will fail to relax .
I told Nataliya about my total lack of sleep and how broken it is and she drummed in to me how important it is to get rest…so I have decided to do earlier nights 3 times a week and also soak in epson salt to relax.
I can’t recommend Natalya’s facials enough. I don’t gush about products or treatments unless I think they are amazing! Not just for the treatment but she’s great to talk to (if you want to talk!) and gives you a lot of lifestyle tips (her glowing skin is a testament to this). She also is very kind and makes you feel like a million dollars as you leave her salon.
My skin was glowing and so clean after the treatment and was so for a while after the treatment.
See. Although relatively expensive compared to some high street facials, I would recommend going for one facial with her and seeing how how you feel – her treatments are easily worth 10 with someone else and I’ve been spoilt for life methinks.
