I’ve been trying Peeling Gels for years – originally Japanese brands but I stopped using them as I found the irritated my skin too much to be worth it. But then I was having a mindless day and decided to purchase the
Peeling gels are generally physical exfoliants – they bunch up as you rub them in and some of it is dead skin, most of it is a reaction in the gel when it comes in with oil. The bunching up (pictured below) is VERY cathartic indeed.
As mentioned before I found a lot of peeling gels far too irritating and drying so not worth the effort.
This Mizon product has changed my mind. It is a brilliant Peeling Gel. Firstly it smells fresh like apples – bonus. It is a very wet light jelly – very wobbly texture that is easy to spread. Once it has spread I leave it for only a minute or so, as to not dry my skin then gently massage. If I have any flakes (especially on the nose) it ALL DISAPPEARS. It’s amazing really.
Then when I wash the rest off my skin feels great (don’t get me wrong – I still have to moisturise!) but it certainly feels fresh and lovely, ready for more serums or what not.
When I finished this gel I decided to try something else so bought Tony Moly Brightening Peeling Gel.
This product is not as good – decent but not as good. The texture is a bit thicker and it seems to take longer to work. It does in the end remove most of my flakes but not all – it seems to take longer to work and my skin is a tad dry afterwards. I will still use it all up since it isn’t terrible, but the Mizon is superior and only a pound or so more (damn my curiosity!).
Buy the Mizon for around £6-£7 from eBay. If you have never used a peeling gel before, it’s like using a face scrub but it’s way better! I use mine 1-2 times a week.
