Something you don’t see reviewed very often on this blog is fake tan – I am not a big fake tan user, because I have a tan tone to my skin already I am always worried about looking orange or fake. I am also not fan of the biscuit smell as it starts to develop – to me it smells like biscuits and stewed tea…not very glam!
I’ve had this Melvita Prosun Gradual Self Tanning Moisturising Gel Cream for a while but thought I’d give it a go – as Autumn comes along I do feel a little pale.
They say; Melvita Prosun Gradual Self-Tanning Moisturizing Gel-Cream is a 2-in-1 product that bronzes and moisturises the skin naturally with its delicious, silky smooth texture. A DHA-free formula that offers pleasure and performance in complete safety. A natural and ultra-effective self-tanning agent: Erythrulose, which gives a gradual and controlled tan.
This has the texture of a regular body lotion and it’s easy to apply. It has a vanilla like orangey scent which is lovely, and unlike other tanning products, it doesn’t start to stink as it develops (there’s no DHA), and it just smells nice the whole time.
I am not sure how much fake tan suits my skin type which is sensitive – I am not 100% sold that it is necessarily the best thing (Fake tan can make me rashy and itchy) so quite frankly a DHA formula sounds good to me.
Here is the cream which is a light yellow colour:
This product can be used on the face and body – I forgot to be careful with the hands but it didn’t’ seem to stain (although repeated daily use might lead to some discolouration). It is an extremely forgiving product though.
On me the result is very subtle – can you see the difference between my arms? This is one layer so it can be built on slightly but if you are medium coloured like myself the result isn’t going to be so dramatic. I actually don’t mind it at all – it gives a slight glow, it moisturises and smells nice…it’s like using any lotion but with that slight benefit of a subtle colour. The fairer you are the more noticeable your tan will be.
I stuck to this for FOUR days and that gave me more of a bronzed glow that was still very very subtle, not orange at all, not smelly and just quite nice!
Importantly it’s not streaky or messy to use – I do remember applying tan as I was following the crowd and having patchy ankles and white bits in-between my fingers…it’s a seriously bad look. And it’s even worse when someone at work asks, ‘Have you been on holiday over the weekend *side eye*’.
So if you are looking for a DHA free, natural, easy to use gradual tan, this is a great product. It really does work quite nicely just as a moisturiser too so you get those benefits!
