I was sent a selection of Maybelline make up and skincare to try, and one of the palettes in there was this cute little purple eyeshadow palette. I have a soft spot of purples and I haven’t yet found my most amazing purple palette.
Maybelline Big Eyes has a USP, and that is that you can use the middle highlighting shade around the edge of the eye, in a C shape to create a highlight.
A better look at the colours – they’re definitely nice looking in the palette and I love this kind of violet purple as opposed to warmer purples.
Now to swatch – I wasn’t amazed or disappointed, it was what I expected. Pigmentation is fine, it is buildable. I found the formula somewhat powdery, which is what I find in a lot of the drugstore make up, like there’s lots of extra powder coming off that isn’t really adding anything, whereas some of my favourite eyeshadows feel like they are pure sexy pigment.
The shades are a bit mellow for my taste too when swatched:
I used the colours on my eyes, and to be fair the colours are more vivid on my eyes and they don’t look chalky (I think!). I used the middle shade as instructed to highlight, and it definitely does, it’s a little bit TOO pearly for realistic every day wear I think, you have to use a light hand otherwise it looks quite disco-ball-y.
Overall a decent little palette which is good if you don’t want to spend too much on a particular set of colours.
