Today I will review one of my recent foundation and powder purchases, MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation and the Pro Longwear Pressed Powder. Tomorrow I will review the MAC Waterweight Foundation. In truth, I do not need any more bases, but I am always willing to try new foundations out; powders, I have a stack of and as I rarely use them anyway, this was just an impulse buy.
So what made me buy yet another foundation? Well, I generally get on with most of the MAC base products I buy (but not the recent BB compact OR Face and Body) and the NC35 shade suits me well. This foundation offers waterproof long lasting coverage which I also like because I never have time to reapply and I want my make up to last as long as possible.
MAC call this a ‘tenacious waterproof formula that can be used as a foundation or concealer, wearing for an unprecedented 24 hours. Neither rain nor tears can budge this oil free watertight product that actually repels moisture from the surface of the face’.
A water repelling foundation?! That is tenacious too!? Ok ok MAC, you got me…
So the low down is, I really like this foundation. My all time HG foundation is RMK but I don’t really want to use that up on a daily basis, since most of my days involve play groups, Tesco and being trampled on by children. Having said that, 5 minutes a day to make yourself look neat makes one feel better (ok, it makes me feel a bit better) so I like the idea of a cover all foundation.
I use shade NC35 in this base, and it comes in a squeezy soft tube, which I will cut open to scoop the dregs out when I get the the end of it. You get 25ml (why not 30!) for £25.50 which is an ok price for me.
So what is it about this foundation I like?
Firstly it’s the coverage. This foundation offers medium to high coverage, and it very easily turns in to a high coverage base if you want it to – just apply more liberally or pat on with fingers and it seems to cover up pores, blemishes and redness well. I don’t use a concealer when I use this foundation. If anything, it may feel like it is on the heavy side for people who like tinted moisturisers but for people who love creamy feeling foundations, you will love this.
I said creamy right? Therefore, this base is really best for drier skin types, which mine is especially on the cheeks. It hydrates and makes my skin feel plumped and smooth, no clinging to dry patches. It gives an extremely glowy healthy result on my DRY skin. I imagine it would look a bit oilier on oily skin! If you hate dewy or glow like finishes you might not like this base, although you can still powder it down…but for me, I love the DEW.
It also blends well…not too much effort is needed to create a smooth base. Not too streaky. It is pretty effortless which is important to me once again, as time is an issue.
Longevity is another huge strength. This stuff DOES last. I don’t think I have gone as far as 24 hours, but quite close and when I take it off after a long period, it is STILL ON MY FACE. It does cling (as I said before, you can feel it on the skin which you will either like or hate) but it lasts sooooo long. I think I would chance a swim with this stuff on my face.
It’s not too hard to remove with an oil cleanser.
Swatch – and also the powder:
I haven’t talked much about the powder but I guess I don’t find powders that interesting.
I got a Medium Plus in the powder which is annoyingly slightly pink. It doesn’t look bad though. I have several MAC powders – this has more coverage than say the Careblend, which is almost invisible to me, but it is not as shimmery as one of the Mineralize powders. It’s a nice decent fact powder which makes the face look matte and certainly I would consider this on hotter days, and days when I really need things to last. I think overall, my favourite pressed MAC powder is still Blot.
I have worn this foundation frequently these last few weeks – I love it! It really does keep everything looking so smooth and glory and photo ready (it photographs extremely well this foundation!). So in summary this base is great if:
– You have drier skin
– You like a dewy glow finish
– You don’t mind a creamier, heavier feeling base on your skin
– You want something that will last all day
– Easy to apply and blend
– Oilier skins may find this too rich, and makes their skin look too shiny
– You can definitely feel it on your skin
– Not everyone likes the made up full face of make up look – this covers so evenly that the face definitely looks ‘made up’ if that makes sense. Natural flaws do not show through, such as freckles etc.
This base is now in my every day make up bag and I use it if I want more coverage and I know I have a long day ahead. If I have an easier day that won’t involve being out too much I will reach for a lighter base (reviewed tomorrow!).
The powder is decent, I will keep hold of it but it’s not something that took my breath away.
