Lovely New Cleansers! Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser and Nourishing Cleansing Balm Review

February 17, 2016 |

Hello all!

I have been following a Korean skincare routine for a while which I will review in detail, and finding out what works for me and what doesn’t.  I can tell you now that Korean cleansers I have tried are OK, nothing spectacular as of yet so I was happy to swap over to these Pixi cleansers to see how they worked – they are the Nourishing Cleansing Balm and Glow Mud Cleanser.

You probably know that Pixi do make up and you may have heard of the Glow Tonic liquid.  The skincare range is bigger than I imagined, and a lot of it sounds quite appealing, I think for me, because everything sounds like it has purpose.  You know how how when a cosmetic brand decides to launch skincare they do a bog standard Foam cleanser, Rose toner, a cream…it doesn’t feel like that with Pixi.  In the case of these two cleansers, they feel like a very current response to the type of cleansers that people are looking for, moving away from foaming washes and milks.

I have been using the Nourishing Cleansing Balm at night, to remove make up and also because I have more time to work it in to my skin then.  I then follow with the Mud Cleanser for a double cleanse.

In the day I have been using a small squirt of the Mud Cleanser.

(£18) is a rich, kinda dense textured balm that looks like it could be furniture polish.  It contains shea butter, vitamin E, sweet almond oil.  It is sold as a Balm to Oil cleanser, for people worried about it not washing off effectively, as balms can be sticky.

I have used various balms and also balm to oils – the most recent are (but it contains Mineral Oil and is drying) and also Darphin’s Aromatic Cleansing balm, which I started off liking but started to irritate my skin badly. Basically, I find balms a little irritating for my sensitive and dry skin.

I like Pixi’s offering very much – it suits both dry and sensitive skin. Does it work for oilier skin? I don’t know but I can tell you it works so well if you have delicate skin.

The balm itself is quite soft once you dig your finger in – it has a grainy texture with some grainy bits in it (you might be able to see in my photo) which could just be part of the natural process – I know from making lip balms in the old days that sometimes the balms and oils would form little harmless lumpy bits.

It spreads out nicely and melts in to the skin.  It also removes my make up nicely and the main thing is that my skin looks SO CALM after using it. Not a hint of redness or irritation, and I also felt it came of easily with the help of warm water and a flannel. A keeper.

(currently sold out at the time of writing!) is another interesting one – it looks like a browny mud colour with a medium not runny not thick texture.  It spreads thinly on the skin and isn’t foaming. It’s really strange. I can’t think of another cleanser I have like it.

This contains 5% glycolic acid to exfoliate the skin, the mud is deep cleansing and there’s also avocado oil and aloe vera in there.

Again the key thing for me here is that there is no irritation, no dryness. My skin looks a bit brighter, and feels soft.  Used together my skin doesn’t fell dry but it’s a really nice easy use in the mornings too, it doesn’t take forever to wash off. This using with my Mizon AHA/BHA toner (more on this later) seems to be helping my blocked pores situation – but that is another post.

If you don’t like the thickness of balm you might want to try the Mud Cleanser instead.

Here are the products side by side:

A total hit for me these cleansers are what I am using now and I have abandoned my Korean branded stuff which was making my skin a bit red and a bit dry.
