I am easing back in to writing posts, everyone. The kids have had one sickness after another with no break (Flu, Norovirus, Ear Infection, now Scarlet Fever) so to say it’s hard to find time to do anything in the evening other than collapse on the floor in a pile is an understatement.
So here is a lazy post. Why lazy? Because what beauty junkie doesn’t already know about *? You probably already own it. I am SURE I owned it but couldn’t find it anymore. With my free Back to Mac lipstick, I decided to get this rather than some wacky colour I’d only wear once.
MAC Velvet Teddy is described as a ‘Matte deep toned beige’. No wonder it is still a favourite nude for many people. I am sure it was more ‘orangey’ when I owned it 10 years ago, but this time around it is definitely more beige-y.
The truth is my nude shade days are somewhat over. Yes I will still try a nude but those skin toned beiges are out – they make me look washed out and tired. Maybe they have always made me look washed out and tired, but when I was younger I didn’t care. These days, I’d like to look more awake, thank you.
My point is I choose my nudes carefully.
Whilst Velvet Teddy is a ‘matte’ it is a soft matte, free of shimmer and shine, but it’s not a hard matte like the current trend of liquid lipsticks give. I actually dislike that kind of matte on myself – I think it makes the lips look dry and unhealthy. I much prefer the soft matte of this lipstick (although for a really matte look, MAC have their Retro Matte colours).
Velvet Teddy is a rose-beige-mauvy nude on me. I don’t hate it as it isn’t too light but it does blend in to my skin more than I thought. With a stronger eye I think it would work great. If I have a simple eye then this sort of just makes my lips more invisible. It doesn’t really make me that excited and yet, if you have yet to buy a beige nude that doesn’t make you look dead, this is a really safe choice.
I recently counted all my MAC lipsticks (and I am not a huge MAC fan) but I have still managed to acquire about 60 of them! Crazy!
Do you have a favourite MAC lipstick? I have some more Back to Mac items to return so want to get an interesting colour.
