September 2015 sees the arrival of Jo Malone’s newest cologne, Mimosa & Cardamom – a subtle beauty perfect for autumn.
When I first heard about the new scent my initial thoughts were; Sounds yummy! followed by, What does Mimosa smell like?! Seriously no idea. I was about to find out.
The notes for the scent are:
Top Note – Cardamom, Heart – Mimosa and Base – Tonka Bean.
“A new bohemia awaits. Mists of honeyed, golden mimosa float above the spiciness of freshly crushed cardamom. Creamy tonka and smooth sandalwood woven under powdery heliotrope and Damask rose picked at dawn. Warm, ethereal, mesmerising.”
First sniff; minty freshness, almost like salty air. Oh…then I smell sweetness with a slight creamy, bushy fuzzy leaf tang, That must be the mimosa, right? I can almost smell the yellow fuzziness. As it starts to settle, I get a honey floral type smell, it’s sweet but with some green in there – it’s creamy and warm. It’s a very soothing scent, like your favourite room in the house on a sunny day, when there’s a beam on sunshine breaking through the windows.
The cardamom for me – maybe because I have handled the spice before but never really properly sniffed it, it took me a bit longer for it come out. That must be the slightly spicy touch the fragrance has, the thing that keeps it from being too floral and creamy. But for me the main thing I get from this scent is the soft fuzzy fuzzy yellow flowers; very elegant and soft, it’s really beautiful scent, perhaps not something I would’ve appreciated when I was younger but I love now because it is not that obvious – it is quite subtle and grassy…if it were a bouquet it would be a bunch of wild flowers you’d have time naming rather than a bunch of obvious supermarket roses, if that makes sense.
We all know that Jo Malone is known for fragrance combining – and there are two combinations that work especially well.
Combined with one of my favourite scents ever, the beautiful English Pear & Freesia, Mimosa & Cardamom becomes a fruit garden; juicy and rich – I smell the lovely pear and I can smell almost juicy like peaches on a tree; there’s a woodiness too it but also a sweetness that reminds me of caramel pie (I am just telling you what my nose is thinking!). There is something else there and it isn’t Aniseed but it’s along those lines…liquorice…it’s something else that makes the combination really interesting.
It’s a really nice nuzzle up combination – it is so soft and warm, feminine and perfect for autumn. This combination is recommended as a day time scent.
Then there is Mimosa & Cardamom combined with Tuberose Angelica, which is a Cologne Intense. This combination is seen as more of an evening scent.
My oh my. If there was ever a combination made in heaven, it is this. I sniffed a card with M&C and TA (separately) and I kept alternating between smelling the scents on their own and together…I really did prefer and love the scents together.
The beautiful soft fuzzy of Mimosa & Cardamom because a fragrant sweet and creamy full bodied floral with a ambery sexy base. If I could’ve had this combination on my wedding day, I would have. It is very white-flowery but not boring or flat – it’s so cream and rich – maybe it’s because I love tuberose anyway but combining it with the Mimosa adds an earth like edge to it – the wood and spice keeps this combination really interesting. The angelica is very fresh and almost herby, I love it – it works well with the mimosa. It’s very feminine combination, unashamedly so but not girly or boring. It is just a really really gorgeous combination for white floral – musky – wood scent lovers like me.
……..a few hours after the first sprays I have both combinations on my wrists.
The English Pear combination still smells quite strongly; vanilla-amber sweetness remains which quite a sexy scent.
The Tuberose Angelica side has faded somewhat – I have to move my nose right next to my skin to pick up the scent of spicy-rose-mimosa. It smells like a well worn in fragrance if that makes sense – it’s like it has blended in to my skin somewhat and you’d have to move in close to pick up the very delicate prickly green-floral that remains.
Mimosa and Cardamom has launched and costs £42 for 30ml and £85 for 100ml. There is also a home candle (£42), Body Creme (£50) and body and Hand Wash at £28. Purchase the scent
