I guess I have been thinking a lot about my dream home and what it would look like, and I get the feeling that in the future we will be renovating our own place. That is a few years away but there’s no harm at perusing the absolutely dreamy homes that are in Pinterest right?! Kitchens and fireplaces are my thing, and to research this post I ended up also looking at .
Above – how dreamy is that set up? A little area to work and gorgeous long wooden staircase. Sigh. In dreams, seeing a staircase is supposed to be quite significant – it represents a journey and ascending one is seen as lucky!
I’ve always wondered if when I finally get to designing our home if I will be able to maintain a consistent style throughout. The fact is my head is always turned by new gorgeous things, so would I go for something modern, maybe made of metal and class or would I stick to classic; solid wood for example. I love the look of both but I guess that’s something I can deal with when it comes.
It is possible to buy staircases that are premade, but how you even begin…choosing a bespoke staircase obviously takes away all of the hassle in terms of having to know about your sizing and what logically makes sense for your home.
Having said that, I always thought that getting new bespoke staircase was this thing that only people with huge homes did but my aunt recently got hers done when she realised her current ones were far too steep for young children (they actually seemed to tilt slightly – not something you want to walk down in the middle of the night!) PLUS there was no banister! Everything worked out for her design and value wise.
So can work for you if your current ones aren’t suitable – my aunt’s made her home feel safer, look better and it was a good investment as any for the home.
Once you’ve fitted your staircase there’s other things to consider like the flooring and finishing touches of course (another thought – how easy do you want your staircase to clean? Already decided – glass and little sticky fingers are a no-no!).
So have you ever had custom made stairs or had a stair make over in some shape or form? Let me know!
