To be completely honest, when I hear the world Enzyme in a product I get worried and my face itches in anticipation. Why?
Because my skin is sensitive darling, it has feelings. I learnt the hard way, recently, that using anything too fancy makes my skin go a little nuts. It doesn’t matter if it cost a fortune – if my skin hates it, it punishes me for weeks and weeks.
So as much as I like Elemis I wasn’t sure what to make of the Tri Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask:
Elemis Tri Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask addresses the decline in skin renewal as your skin ages. You’ll be left with instantly smoother, shine-free and more radiant skin.
Tri Enzyme Resurfacing Mask combines patented Tri Enzyme Technology with the Amazonian acerola cherry, white truffle poria cocos, great burdock, erysimum and amino acids to encourage effective retexturising of the skin’s surface and balance sebum levels without compromising the natural pH levels.
This mask is used twice a week for 8-10 minutes, and the skin gets a tingly sensation upon application. EEK.
This clear gel mask looks so innocent too:
Tentatively I applied this product (I’ve been using it for a total for 3 months now!) and I have to say – this product is DIVINE.
Yes it tingles. Yes it made me nervous. Would I use this when my very sensitive skin is freaking out (it is at the moment) – NO. I wouldn’t use anything that could create a flare up.
But when my skin is in it’s normal (but still sensitive) state, this product works really, really well.
The mask feels cool when first applied and there is some tingling. I leave it on for 8 minutes and after this period my skin looks so bright and radiant.
I would still approach all kind on ‘enzyme’ masks carefully as many make my skin burn like crazy with seconds of application but the Elemis one seems to be useable for those with sensitive skin (but test it first, of course!).
Another alternative is peeling gels (love this pineapple one from Skinfood) – they seem to suit sensitive skins too.
Buy the mask (or indeed any Elemis counter!).
