All my life, I’ve had the ‘travel light’ philosophy when it comes to going on trips/abroad (not in my day to day bag though!) with me and Mr C sharing a suitcase usually. Then you have a child and BAM – ‘Madam…I have already giving you 4kg free of charge…’. Yeah. Kids require a lot of STUFF.
So to begin my posts about my little jaunt away to Paris, I thought I’d start with talking about what beauty products I took with me!
For Baby H, who has an impressive collection of natural skincare, I took a pre bought set. This makes life so much easier – no messing about decanting things into small bottles, everything we need is there and can be used up then thrown away or kept in my handbag as spares afterwards. (£12.95) makes everything a lot easier for me pre-holiday.
You 10ml minis in here (apart from Shampoo & Body wash which is 20ml); Face Cream, Oil, Nappy Change Cream and Body Lotion. You also get a clear reusable bag (good quality) and a muslin square.
After a 5 day break, I still have product left, so I now have these in my handbag for emergencies.
I also carried an extra face cream – H has dry skin and I notice if I forget to cream him a few times a day (that’s what I call it!), his strawberry toothpaste and toothbrush, Piriton and Paracetemol, a lip balm and another tub of Sudocrem I did decant into a pot from Superdrug. I have huge 400g Sudocrem tubs at home so there’s no way I am carrying one of those!
I am really easy going when it comes to body care items. I got (£2.50 each) who have a huge selection because once again, I can’t be bothered decanting stuff – I’d rather use it up then chuck it.
I got the Body Buff, The Righteous Butter which I used EVERY DAY and wow, it really made a difference! and Clean on Me shower gel. I also took an (£20.99) to massage on my tummy (it’s a great wax for everything), Persipirex Deodorant, my mini Stella perfume and a razor.
Again I am super easy going and took minis along from Umberto Giannini to save taking full size bottles. Like Soap & Glory, UG can be and have a huge range. I have the Pure Beauty Shampoo, Intense Beauty Conditioner, a mini Phillip Kingsley Elasticizer which I didn’t get round to using, a little sample of Orofluide hair oil, Umberto Giannini Dry Shampoo and hairspray, curl styling gel and dazzle shine spray.
Now, with my sensitive skin I can’t mess about as much with facial skincare. Kiehls has been working well for me, which is why my skincare has been quite Kiehls heavy. I took with me (don’t kill me) Mama Mio Gorgeous glow Facial Swipes – I don’t usually use wipes but I wanted something super quick for refreshing the skin and these work nicely with a nice tea-tree-y feel to them and my skin didn’t feel tight or uncomfortable either using them and they removed a lot of make up ().
I also took a mini Philosophy Purity made Simple cleanser which I used to like but don’t any more (I could really smell the alcohol in it) my beloved Softymo eye make up remover which I can’t live without, Kiehls Rosa Arctica Eye Cream, Kiehls Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate, Ultra Light Daily UV SPF 50 and a Kiko eye sunscreen (average), Aromatherapy Associates Super Sensitive Facial Oil (They don’t make this one any more), a mini Kiehls Line Reducing Concentrate and mini Ultra Facial Cream.
It’s worth noting that Kiehls is extremely generous with samples on counter, they are always to give out testers so if you want to request some minis they’re are a good counter to go to.
I also took my Clarisonic incase I felt my skin was particularly grimy.
Can’t forget the extremely glam tools – ear buds, nail clipper, panty liners, big square face pads, my super reflective mirror (£12.95) (see EVERY pore) and dental floss (ALWAYS Glide).
Ah! Now Make Up
I don’t wear make up every day any more – I might only apply the bare minimum when popping out to a play group with H, but if I am going somewhere a bit more special, then I will do a bit more. I knew that on holiday the last thing I wanted to do was faff around with colours so I took only 3 lipsticks, 1 eyeshadow palette and base selection so that there would be no messing and I’d know exactly what to apply every day.
It worked a real treat – the make up I did lasted the entire day and looked nice in photos too.
So it would go like this – base first:
RMK Creamy Primer
MAC Fix + – light spritz
RMK Creamy Foundation shade 104
Jill Stuart Face Concealer wherever required
Hourglass duo – Cream blush and Bronzer – usually just the blush on the cheeks
Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate under cheekbones, a bit of highlight
Hourglass Ambient Powder Trio to set
Canmake’s new WP Primer (INCREDIBLE STUFF)
Urban Decay All Nighter Eye Pencil under lashes
NARS 9944 Eyeshadow Palette – a base colour and light colour in the crease from the palette
Tony Moly Bikini Summer Stick on top (a orange gold)
Heroine Make Mascara
Urban Decay Ink For Eyes Liquid eyeliner (I find it easier applying after curling lashes and mascara).
Jill Stuart Eyebrow Powder Set
Clarins and Brow Fix run over brows to set
Took my pick of either neutral pink, neutral brown or hot pink! My face was neutral enough to choose something bright or natural.
Innisfree Creamy Tint Lipstick in 02 Cocktail Pink
Jill Stuart Lipstick 22 Whisper Back
I took a random handful of brushes:
In the end I could do my make up in 10 minutes or so which was great.
Everything squashed into my bag:
It’s actually this gorgeous wash bag from Liberty – it’s wipeable and very spacious:
This print is out of stock but there are other ones for
And that was all the beauty type products I packed for me and little H! Everything worked out well, I wasn’t short of anything and neither was H. The travel minis I got could easily last much longer than 5 days which makes them good value for say, a 2 week trip abroad. Mr C is much easier than us, razor, cream, deodorant and he’s done!
What do you put in your travel bag?
