Guerlain’s newest eyeshadow duo’s, L’Ecrin 2 Coleurs (£30) are fairly slender sized heavy weight eyeshadow compacts with two colours in two textures (a matte and a glitter/shimmer or as they call it, a dazzling veil). There are 8 colours altogether, all in very tempting and interesting combinations which I really like.
The colours are all called ‘Two —–‘ something or another – there are at least 6 of the 8 palettes I would happily take home with me (Two Rock – a beautiful shimmery light green and a blackened silvery black, Two Extravagant – a medium chocolate matte brown and a shimmery light fresh green, Two Gossip – a rich matte purple and gold shimmer, Two Parisian – a rich black and a golden peach, Two Candy – a matte white and pink shimmer….basically there are only 2 palettes that don’t call to me in this entire range!).
I have two colour combinations and am showing you this one first – Two Spicy.
The packaging, as always with Guerlain is expensive looking and expensive feeling – a lot of pricy palettes are disappointingly light and plastic on close up inspection but Guerlain never is.
Open up the palette and inside is a dual ended sponge, a mirror and two colours.
This palette is described as ‘compact’ – it is still quite rounded and chunky but compared to other Guerlain palettes, such as foe glorious 5 colour palettes, it IS compact. I have this in my carry around make up bag and it’s fine, doesn’t take up too much room.
Two Spicy, which is appropriate as I currently have a spice headache brought on by my home made Kimchi (as Mr C calls, it ‘The Devils Brew’) is a medium toned cool brown with a shimmery orange on the other side. This is still a creative duo but more of the more wearer friendly sets in my mind.
Each pan is quite generously sized:
I hate sponge applicators, I wish they’d just get rid of them sometimes and put something useful in like…oh I don’t know. A cream liner?! Anyway, Guerlain’s sponge applicator is actually quite decent and I have been using it ( I apply make up in the car 80% of the time) – it has a rubbery feel and is a well made sponge, not one where the sponge falls off after a few uses.
Swatch: The brown is very pigmented and creamy. The Orange/coral shimmer contains fine glitter, and is harder to work with…as I ran the sponge over it, it felt like I was barely picking anything up…you know when you get water in an eyeshadow and it seems to have a weird texture on the top? It’s like that…
HOWEVER – despite this texture woe, I wore this and got SO many compliments on my eyes – I also got asked what eyeshadow it was by two people which doesn’t always happen so there must be something about this remarkably simple duo that works with my eyes and just looks sort of pretty on.
Here it is on my eyes – no skill required, brown on the lid, orange on top. The glitters stick well (maybe that’s why the brown is so creamy?) – look closely and see the glitter – it’s very wearable:
When I put this on, I thought to myself that yes it’s pretty but is it really that special? After all the compliments about how pretty it looked and having used it a few times I’ve decided it’s a pretty nice compact to own – it’s very easy to use and looks like you’ve put more work in to it than you actually have because of the pretty 3D glitter.
I know I need to sort my brows…well, I do forget things when plying make up in the car!
These eyeshadows are permanent and are on sale from the 1st of August 2013 on Guerlain Counters. I will review Two Stylish soon.
